Auto Glass: 1989 Jeep Cherokee xj 2-door, vent

Question
I am not able to send pictures,no smart phone and a broken camera. I have the quarter window out and was wanting to know what to use to dissolve the adhesive that wouldn't break down the rubber. I need to get all of those tiny pieces of glass out. The vent part of the window seems to be in a metal frame under the rubber or molded into it. How do you get the new glass in? The large portion not the vent. The rubber seems to be molded in one piece between the two pieces. I am an experienced mechanic myself and am at a loss.

Answer
Hi Jeff,

Would have liked to have seen the window we are talking about here BUT....

Without really knowing what you have there, I can not tell you how to install the glass unless I can see the application or have a detailed explanation of what it is.

I can tell you when removing stubborn glass from any track or channel the trick is to use a combination of (New) Utility blades a Drill bit the same size as the channel you are tying to clean out or smaller and a cotter pin puller or Hook tool as we call it in the proper sizes and a filed down screw driver as a scrapper. Gloves and Goggles are a must here.

Patience is a must! Do not rush it. Let the drill bit do the work and do not force it,  it will jam and break.   Hold drill at a slight angle or whatever works.

DO Not use any solvents on the glued area unless all other options fail.

Dry is the best way because once you have all the glass out bonding back in could be an issue if solvent is not totally removed and channel primed. Let me know how it works out!!

         Hope This Helps!  Derek =D

Sure sounds like a setup !

What next?  Call a Convertable company and ask them how many Buick SunCoupes they have done in the last 30 years?
