Auto Glass: 2004 Toyota Highlander, 2004 toyota highlander, plastic brackets

Question
I have 2004 Toyota Highlander in which the front driver side window is falling off due to the fact that one side of the plastic is broken off from the pieces that the window actually sets down inside of which is hooked to the window regulator. Can these pieces be replaced if so what are they called? If not what is the fix?

Answer
Hello Daniel,

I am making the assumption that you are talking about the two plastic brackets that are glued to the bottom of the glass.  If I am wrong about this, send me a follow up question with some additional information.

I doubt that Toyota will sell these "glass mounting brackets" as a separate part.  They will probably tell you that you must purchase the glass which includes the brackets.

There are a few generic brackets available, but they aren't always a good fit.  In addition, the availability of the brackets to a retail customer is limited as well.

If you are thinking about trying this yourself, the best route might be to purchase a door glass from a local salvage yard.

If you are thinking about having someone make the repair for you, I would find a few local glass shops with excellent BBB ratings.  Then see if you can talk with someone other than a receptionist so you can discuss the problem with the person who is going to make the repair.  They may be able to replace the broken bracket or install a new "non-Toyota" door glass at a reasonable price.

If there is anything else I can do to help, feel free to send a follow up question.
