Auto Glass: 2002 Tacoma L.Dr.Glass problem..., WINDOW REGULATOR

Question
Derek,In this 2 dr.X-tra cab Tacoma, the L door (when you turn the ign.on) glass will sometimes go down by itself. Sometimes while driving.I have replaced the window switch, the motor not long ago due to failure altogether...but the mysterious operation still happens. I do hear what sounds like the locks trying to operate, but don't....on both doors. The rt. door operates properly.Any clue?

Answer
Hi David,

I looked up this truck to see what kind of Window Regulator is in it and it seems to be all Metal not Cable Run so my best guess is that you have Play or damage in the Main Regulator Arm Gear. The glass goes up to the top but slides down do to this Play.  If you have replaced the motor it is the only thing left to fail.

Now some of the high end late model Cars have a sensor that actually does the same thing your truck is doing, it rolls the window down just enough to let out the pressurized air inside the car but, then rolls back up after the door is in the closed position.

This sensor was put in place as a direct response to all the damage caused by the air tight cars blowing out very expensive Rear , Back and side windows.

I just don't think that your model truck has this sensor, but I could be wrong!!

Let me know what you find!

                                                            Hope This Helps! Derek =D
