Auto Glass: 1995 Toyota Celica Convertible left rear window will not raise up, toyota celica, window switch

Question
Hi Ben, As I mentioned in the subject line I cannot get my window to raise on my car.  I know that the motor does get power to LOWER the window because the window does lower if its up ever so slightly. That is after I try to pull it up ( which it only pulls up a half inch at the most).   I know the motor is getting power when the switch is switched to go down but no response when the switch is switched to go up.   All other windows do lower and raise as well as the convertible top. Any suggestions that you may have will be greatly appreciated. I would also appreciate it, if you might be able suggest a way to raise the window manually for the time being.  That is in the event I need to pay for repairs down the road.
Thanks!!!

Answer
Hi James,

There is no practical way to raise the window without repairing the problem.

Based on my previous experience I think the most likely cause of the problem is a faulty window switch.

The last time I encountered this problem the switch wasn't too expensive (@ $60),  but it has been at least a couple of years since then so it may be a bit more expensive now.

If you don't have the expertise to troubleshoot and replace the switch yourself, it shouldn't be too expensive to have a mechanic make the repair for you. I think an experienced mechanic should be able to diagnose the problem and install the new switch in less than an hour.

Feel free to send a follow up question if I can help in some other way.
