Auto Glass: 2003 Sunfire Master Window Switch, pontiac sunfire, 2003 pontiac sunfire

Question
I have a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire 2.4 liter 2 door. It has a 2 button master window switch in the middle console. Window on the driver side goes up and down perfectly.  Window on the passenger side does not go up or down.  Tested the window motor by placing a power drill battery (16 volt or so) and two wires that I connected to the motor and it the window went up and down perfectly.  I bought a new master switch thinking it would work but the new master switch works exactly the same as the old on.

Could it be fuse? Wire shorting out on something? Motor is going bad?

Any help?  Thank you

Answer
Hi Steve,

I don't have the wiring diagram handy, but I think I can walk you through the few steps necessary to find your problem.

1.  There is not a fuse problem.  Both windows use the same fuse.

2.  We know you have power into the master switch because the driver window works okay.

3.  You need to check for power out of the switch on the light blue wire and the light brown brown.  The light blue is the passenger window "up" and the light brown is the passenger window "down."  As you check for power out of the switch at each wire be sure to move the switch button both up and down.  You could have an internal short that allows the switch to put power out on both wires at the same time.

4.  Once you have determined that the switch is working normally, you need to check for power at the electrical connector to the window motor.  I believe the wiring color scheme will stay consistent from the switch to the connector at the motor.  Proceed to check for power at the connector just the way you did at the switch.  Again being sure to move the switch both up and down as you check each of the wires at the motor.

5.  You have already proven that the motor works normally so if everything checks out in steps 3 and 4 there is no reason the window shouldn't work just fine.  If it doesn't, be sure to check that the wiring connector itself is properly aligned and making good contact with the electrical connector on the motor.

Let me know how things turn out.
