Auto Glass: window clips 2001 expedition, aftermarket glass, words of caution

Question
QUESTION: I was reading your communication with another person on the clips that mount the window on the regulator.  I need a pair for the front right window of my expedition. any ideas of part numbers or where to buy?

ANSWER: Hi Michele,

I am making the assumption that the "clips" you mention in your question are what I typically refer to as "glass mounting brackets."  I don't think they are available from Ford and I don't believe there is a suitable aftermarket glass bracket that is widely available.  That leaves you with two options:

1.  Clean the old ones.  (I hold the bracket in a vise and use a 1/8" drill bit to get rid of the old adhesive.  Then, use pliers to adjust the width of the bracket so it fits snug, but not too tight on the glass.

2.  Purchase a used piece of glass which will have the brackets properly attached.

Send me a follow up if you have any other questions.

QUESTION: Any recommendation on adhesive?

Answer
Hi Again Michele,

I am using a "Loctite" product with very good results.  It is a two-part, fast (@ 5-10 minutes) cure epoxy.  I doubt that the exact package I am using is available except through a wholesale glass supplier.  However, I am sure you can find a suitable two-part epoxy at a hardware or autoparts store.  Just a couple of words of caution.  Be sure you install the brackets on the glass in the exact position as before.  An error of more than 1/16th of an inch will make it difficult to mount the glass on the regulator or cause the window to bind as it slides up and down the channels.

Good luck with your project.
