Auto Glass: Master switch power window, chevy tahoe, electrical meter

Question
I have a 2002 chevy tahoe that the driver window switch stopped orking. All others are operating fine except the drier side. The motor does not run. It appears that the switch isn't triggering anthing. I look forward to your response.  Thank you

Answer
Hi Armando,

It is more likely the window motor that is at fault.  This is a fairly common failure with the Tahoe, Silverado, Suburban, Escalade, etc.  In my experience, the window switch seldom fails .

You don't say much about your mechanical skill level or whether or not you have a 12 volt test light or electrical meter, so I will assume that you are a novice.  Here is a "test" that requires no tools.

1.  Sit in the driver's seat and start the engine with the transmission in "park."

2.  Open the driver's door.

3.  With your right hand reach over and hold the driver's window switch in the down position.

4.  Shut the door firmly with your left hand without letting go of the switch with your right.

This little experiment is designed to "jog" and un-stick the motor.  If it works, your window will go down.  If it doesn't work, contact your mechanic.  He'll test the switch first and if that is working properly, he will remove the door panel and check the window motor.

Good luck Armando.

Ben  .... the power window guy.
