Auto Glass: motor replacement, regulator assembly, auto parts store

Question
I am having problems with the cable on the pulley, when i wrap the cable it is loose when i put it on the motor and and install on the window frame. What position should the window be in, I have the window in the up postion which is where it was when I removed the motor. 2001 silverado 1500 passenger side.

Answer
Hello Jim,

It is much easier to replace the whole motor/regulator assembly than to just replace the motor.  If you can get a refund on the motor or exchange the motor for a motor/regulator assembly, I certainly recommend it.  If your local auto parts store sells an assembly made by DORMAN, it is a reliable part.

If you have no choice except to use the motor you have already purchased,  the best way to do it is with the entire regulator mechanism out of the door.

You will notice that the cables are "tensioned" by a spring in the housing near the motor.  When replacing the motor, you must make sure that all the cables remain aligned and tensioned.  It is not a simple job if you have never done it before.  An extra set of hands would be helpful.
