Auto Glass: 02 Camry driver side window, silicone lubricant, locking pliers

Question
QUESTION: My driver side window travels up and down but the front narrow end drops down, resulting in a window that is tilted forward and the longer side out of the channel when moving up an down. Do I need to replace the regulator or can it be adjusted? If the regulator needs replacing, is it difficult to deal with the coil spring?
Thanks in advance.

ANSWER: Hi Raymond,

I don't think you will need to replace the regulator.  My best guess is that the bolt that holds the front glass mounting bracket to the window regulator has fallen out.  I have seen this condition on this vintage Camry more than once.

I don't have time to give you more detailed information right now, but let me know what else you need to know and I'll try to answer your questions tomorrow.

QUESTION:  My problem started when the front plastic bracket broke. I replaced the window,(should have mentioned it). What do you suggest now?

Answer
Hi Raymond,

I am surprised that the situation has re-occurred after you replaced the glass.  I would look for some sort of restriction or problem with the front run channel:  maybe a torn run channel gasket, or a bent or loose front run channel, or a pinched run channel next to side view mirror.  Be sure to use a silicone lubricant on the run channel gasket.

If you do decide to replace the regulator it is no big deal.  If you use a salvaged regulator it will come with the motor and the return spring will be no issue.  If you buy a new regulator from Toyota the spring is not that hard to install.  Just position the regulator in the "up" position, attached the motor, and then install the spring using a pair of locking pliers to hold the end of the spring.

Let me know how else I can help.
