Auto Glass: power window, door glass adjustment, door glass

Question
QUESTION: Hi, Derek. I got my car from my mom and the power window doesn't work obviously. I took off the panel and first the bracket was loose so I tightened it and it worked for an instant then I noticed a piece of the motor attatches through something that keeps it stable, a bolt from the motor. So I tried to put it through but it wouldn't go all the way through so I took off some bolts and got it through but now it want go through the door hole. and the bolts I took off do not line up correctly. Before I took it off it would roll down if I pushed it down and roll up if it was half way up. The window seems to be on alignment I think the thing it hooks to is the gear that turns the actuator arm. Any help will be useful, I'll respond to any questions you have for me, thanks.

ANSWER: Hi Lawrence,

Sounds like you just have to hold glass steady and (TAP) the window button UP or Down and realigned the bolt holes. But first if it has a spring coil attached to the regulator DO NOT TAKE OUT ALL BOLTS! Did not mean to startle you there but that could hurt you if it is a spring loaded system. If it is spring loaded take all but one bolt. if it is not, you can take them all out and pull the window up by hand and look at the holes in the motor and match them to the door holes. Once you find the RIGHT pattern, Start (Thread by hand First) the Bolts, then tighten with ratchet after you get them threaded into motor. If you still have trouble give me the Year, Make and Model and I will try to help further. Hope this helps. Keep it Safe! Derek :)

QUESTION: Thanks fof the info, I do think it is spring loaded and I don't think I took all the bolts out. If you can find some more info for me so I can work on it tomorrow, it is a 1997 pontiac sunfire, 2.4 ltr. Thanks

Answer
Hi Lawrence,
I want to clarify that when I say ( do not take all the bolts out ) I mean out of the Motor itself, not the regulator. You can take all the bolts out of regulator and realign it to the door. Your regulator is a third arm system with a top window track on the glass and requires several adjustments to get it right. (Tricky) I would call someone in on this. You might be surprised if you call around some places get as little as 25-50 dollars to do a Door Glass Adjustment. Also, if you need parts most Good Mobile guys will have parts on the truck. If you do not want to call a pro in on this  ( I Recommend!!!) I would say your best bet is to open up the door on the exact other side, (If that door Works?LOL:) and see it roll up and down and you will have no question as to how it all works and the pattern of the bolts. It is all just a matter of TIME!, Do you want to spend half a day working on a door that might need a part not yet known to you until you pull everything apart or get it all back together?, Anytime bolts are coming loose by themselves and It is A Summer time window., Summer Times it works, and Summer times it don't LOL :), I would say there is probably more going on inside that door then you want to deal with!  Let me know how you make out! Derek :)
