Auto Glass: Window wont go up or down?, triangle shape, rubber plugs

Question
I have a 1993 ford explorer and my window won't go up or down by itself but the motor is working.I feel I have the problem down to the little rubber plugs (3). But I took the door panel off and I can't see where to install them? Help would be great. Thank you

Answer
Hi Jason,

If the three "plugs" you are speaking about are a little smaller than a dime in diameter and are made of white plastic, they go inside the head of the motor.

You can confirm that these "gear cushions" need to be replaced by checking for the following symptoms.

1.  The motor runs continuously as long as you hold the switch
   button up or down.

2.  The window moves down a little bit when you press the button, but
the window won't go up and it "bounces" as the motor runs.

3.  If some one pulls up on the glass while you press the switch to
raise the window the glass can be moved up.

If your window is exhibiting these symptoms, send me a follow up email telling me if you know where the motor is located inside the door and if you can see the three 5/16" brass colored bolts  arranged in a triangle shape about 4" apart holding it in place.

Ben ..... the power window guy.
