Automotive Plastics: Identifying auto plastic, cowl, air grill

Question
I have a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder with a crack in the front windshield cowl vent grille. It is black and only has part numbers on it. I was looking for the codes you had mentioned ie PUR or PP. Without the code, is there any other way to ID the type of plastic that I have? Can you suggest a method of repair aswell?

Answer
Hi Dave. From experience, we know Nissan uses two polymers to make cowls: ABS+pc copolymer in older models and PP for the newer. I have searched in the web for images of this part and have an idea of what we are dealing with. just to confirm and to devise a solution for you, I would suggest to send me a close-up of the affected area, so I can help you the best way I can. My mail: manual@bumper2bumperplasticsrepair.com  please mention the word "cowl" in the subject box and I will answer with details for you to have it repaired.
