Automotive Plastics: squeaky plastic parts, console noise squeak plastic

Question
Hello, Octavio.  My wife's 1996 Chevy Blazer has a plastic center console. When she rest her arm on it or puts weight on it, the lid and the console body squeak. Is there some sort of lubricant that can be used to eliminate the squeak?  Will WD40 work?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi David, It is the first time I have heard of such noise in this car model and make. However I think it is not a good idea to use any lubricant in interior plastics because I do not know the chemical composition of that substance.I would instead proceed like this:
With the help of a piece of garden water hose,in complete silence, put and end of the hose in your ear while trying to locate the squeak by pushing and pulling everywhere in the console.Get the other hose end near suspect areas such as the hinge lid, mounting screws and so on...Got an stethoscope? it works even better. Once you locate the source, tighten screws or clips if any or apply some Vaseline, talcum powder or graphite. Some noises may demand dismantling the console and fixing a crack by welding.good luck.
