Auto Parts: Turn Signal, left turn signal, fuse block

Question
Hello,
I HAVE A 1998 BUICK CENTURY.  MY REAR LEFT BLINKERS ARE NOT WORKING AND I HAVE REPLACED ALL BULBS INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS.  MY NEXT MOVE IS TO REPLACE THE COMBINATION FLASHER WHICH I HAVE JUST LOCATED AND REMOVED, (GM # 12450054) BEFORE I REPLACE THIS PART IS THERE ANYTHING I MAY BE OVER LOOKING AND COULD THIS BE THE PROBLEM CAUSING MY BLINKER NOT TO WORK?

Answer
Hello Conor,

If your flasher controls all your signals and all of them are working except for the rear left one then i highly doubt it would be your flasher, i recommend checking the following first.

First,  Check all fuses in the fuse block associated with the rear left turn signal.

If the fuse is good, remove the taillight assembly and find the wires connected to the rear left turn signal.  Using a test light ground the clip on the test light and probe the wires, one will be ground and one will be power, if your turn signals are also your brake light bulbs, then there will be another wire for the brakes that will show power when the brake pedal is depressed.  If it is also your parking lights, then there will bve a fourth wire that shows power when the parking lights are on.

Check these wires for proper power and ground.

If all the power wires have power when they should, trace the ground wire to see if there is a break in the wire anywhere.

if any of the power wires do not have power, ie.

Brake wire not powered when you step on the brakes

turn signal wires not showing power when you turn on the left turn signal (Since we are working on the left side)

Parking light not having power when you turn on the parking lights.

then you will need to check these wires for breaks or frayed/grounded wire, this would cause them not to work.

Also check fuses to see if any have blown.

Start there and keep me advised of your progress.

Let me know if i can be of further assistance.

Good Luck

Thank You.
