Auto Parts: speedometer pointer knocked off position, 2004 honda odyssey, honda odyssey

Question
Hi Mike,
I have a 2004 Honda Odyssey.  The orange colored pointer for the speedometer has moved counter-clock wise off scale (higher than 140 MPH) and does not move off the maximum right position, whether I am moving or stopped.  I remember striking the driver's side of dashboard with my hand. Could the impact have knocked the pointer off position?  To fix this problem and get the speedometer indicating again, is there something a car owner can do, or is there no other alternative than to take the car into a mechanic for a major job? Thank you.

Answer
If you can get at the gauge face by taking the dash apart, you can probably just push the needle back into position.  If it won't stay, then you may be able to crimp the shaft so that it will.  Worst case is that you will have to buy a new gauge, which will be expensive.  I've never had one of these dashes apart, so I'm not sure how difficult it will be.  But, most are much easier than they appear to be.
