Auto Parts: Headlights, pontiac grand prix, halogen lights

Question
I own a 1998 pontiac grand prix gt. I recently installed aftermarket headlights with leds. i want light bulbs to be the same color of blue as the leds are. However there is a sticker on the headlights that says do not use HID bulbs. I found bulbs online that are 6000k. Is that too high? and secondly if that is too high what is the recomended brightness level as to not destroy my headlights? Thanks, Max

Answer
The reason they tell you not to use HID is that they give off ultra-violet that will degrade the plastic in the headlights.  To get the right color blue you may have to experiment.  6000K is a pretty high color temperature, it will appear almost white, like a HID bulb.  The reason the LEDs look blue is because they are bluer than the yellowish halogen lights; they aren't really blue.  My advice would be to use the highest temp bulbs (probably the 6000K) you can get.  The color may not match exactly, but you will be able to see better and further at night.
