Auto Parts: Accented headlamps, projector headlamps, xenon lamps

Question
QUESTION: Im looking to get accented headlamps. what is the difference between projectors, HIDs, halogens, xenon, angel eyes, anything. i just need to know what u know so i can make the best decision. Thanks!

ANSWER:      Well, what I know is this:  not all of these types are available for all cars.  If you want projector headlamps, you'll have to buy a car with projector headlamps, which are usually HID lamps as well.  There is very little that can be done to upgrade these.  Xenon lamps are halogen lamps that give off a bluer or whiter light than normal halogen bulbs.  This light is closer to the color of sunlight, and easier for the eye to see.  This makes the xenon lamp seem brighter to the eye.  Angel eyes are a ring of smaller lights around the existing lamp, usually in a color such as blue or purple.  State laws regulate what colors can be displayed on the front of a car, and you need to check it out before you do something like that.  Personally, I have no use for them.  Some halogen-equipped cars can be converted to HID with special bulb kits.  This is, for my money, the best thing to do.  It gives you brighter light so you can see better, and it reduces the current draw of the lights by more than half.  The prices of these kits vary wildly, so do a little shopping before you buy.  If replacing a H4 bulb, or a 9004, make sure that you get a HID replacement that supports both the high and low beams separately; some don't.

"ring" light
QUESTION: Alright thanks. I wont be driving the car on the streets so legality isnt a problem. It's a 2003 pontiac sunfire. I have H9. I am looking to support both high and low beams though. Do halogens or xenon tend to run for more? and what would i have to get to have it work on the car? Im also really looking for the "ring" light like what is on the picture. what is this?

Answer
I won't ask what possible off-road function a Sunfire could serve.  We used to have an old Beetle with "Farm Use" painted on the sides that we would use to go to the corner store.  They don't allow that anymore.  The stock bulbs are halogen, the "xenon" bulbs are actually also halogen, but with a coating on them.  Xenon bulbs will cost more, of course.  I don't see how the "ring" type lamp could work in the Sunfire's headlamp assembly.
