Auto Parts: 1999 Lincoln Continental will start but will not move, ford transmissions, lincoln continental

Question
I have a 1999 Lincoln Continental and the car starts fine,it is just that when I shift from park to drive or reverse anything and put my foot on the gas the engine revs but the car will not move. I checked to make sure it is not just in need of transmission fluid, which it is not. I have been told it is the transmission then I've been told it is the transmission mount. And honestly I have no idea what it is. Like I said the car starts fine no weird sounds nothing but it just will not move. Do you have any idea what this could be?

Answer
Well, I'd be tempted to peek under the car and see if the drive shaft is turning when this happens.  If it is, then the problem is in the rear end.  If it is not, then the transmission is almost certainly bad.  Hard say what is wrong with it, but it will probably need to be replaced/overhauled.  These Ford transmissions are pretty sturdy and rarely fail in this manner, but you're going to have to let a pro give it the once-over in order to find out the problem.
