Chrysler Repair: Infinity Sound system: CD wont power up 00 LHS, infinity sound, panel lamps

Question
QUESTION: I just bought a used 2000 LHS with a Infinity Sound system the radio and the cassette work fine but the ready light on the 4 cd changer does not light up and unit seems to not power up. Question is: is this a security code problem and if I would buy a used 4 cd changer from a place like ebay would i be able to just change the units and be ready to go?

ANSWER: Hi Brian,
None of the manuals I have for the LH speaks of a security system for the CD. The CD unit appear in the '04 wiring diagrams to get all of its power, etc from the radio unit by a multi-wire plug. Let me know if you have a voltmeter and want to check out the interconnection between the two units and I will tell you what to look for on the wires.

QUESTION: Thank you Roland, I do have a voltmeter please advise also what is the removal procedure to remove this changer

Answer
Hi Brian,
To get to the CD you begin by disconnecting the remove - post battery clamp post (on the strut tower, usually). Remove ash receiver (is applicable). Using a soft wooden pry stick, gently pry on the edges of the bezel that surrounds the units in the center console. Disconnect the wiring to the heater/ac control unit, the cigal lighter/auxiliary power outlet and traction control switch. Remove the center bezel. Remove the two screws that hold the CD unit in the console, then pull it out, and unplug it.
The radio has a 10-way plug, and it connects 8 wires to the CD unit:
1 and 6 (gray/white and dark green/white are the audio wires and connect to 1 and 5 on the CD
2 and 7 are ground wire (black/orange and black/tan) and connect to 6 and 7 of tne CD
3 is shown as a CD "shield" white/light blue with no specifci connection
10 is fused 12V which should be "hot" when the battery is connected, gray/yellow and connects to pin 8 of the CD
4 is a digital but wire for controlling remotely  violet/yellow and attaches to pin 3 of CD
9 is panel lamps dimmer control wire orange/tan and attaches to pin 2 of CD
5 is ignition switch output of 12V when the switch is in the 'run' position, red wire, and attaches to pin 4 of the CD.
I would verify that the wires connections are patent between the radio and the CD unit (test to show resistance is 0 ohms between each end of a wire) and then I would check the 2 volage source wires when the battery - post remote is reconnected (pin 8 at the CD should then be hot, and pin 4 at the CD should be hot when you turn on the ignition switch. If all that checks out then it may be an internal electronic problem. Ideally you will discover a disconnected plug or wire which is an easy repair. My reference for the above is the '04 wiring diagrams, which probably are applicable to your '00.
