Auto Parts: 1994 Chevy Truck Steering Columns, chevy 4x4, tilt column

Question
My truck is a 1994 Chevy 4X4 1500 Standard Transmission non-tilt without cruise control. Can I replace the steering column with a 1990 GMC tilt automatic and cruise control steering column or are the wiring/plugs different?

Answer
You could do this.  The best way to do it would be to take the harness out of your old column and install it in the new column.  That shouldn't be that big a deal as you're going to be taking everything apart anyway.  This is a lot of work to go through just to get a tilt column, though.  If the wheel is in the way of the driver, you might want to consider getting a smaller wheel instead.  With power steering you won't notice the difference in effort, and it will make the truck feel like it handles better.  Since you don't have to worry about airbags this would not be at all difficult or expensive.
