Auto Parts: 1988 Honda Accord EX Headlight Switches, honda accord ex, switch mechanism

Question
I have a 1988 Honda Accord Ex and my headlights don't want to turn on anymore. When I try to turn on the headlights the knob that you are supposed to turn, turns very stiffly. Not like its supposed to. Sometimes it won't even turn at all like in the early mornings. I turn the car on for about 20-25 minutes in case it needs to "warm up" but the lights still won't work. The button on the dashboard (1st to the right of the steering wheel) will raise the headlights when the knob at the steering  wheel won't. Someone once told me it was some kind of "light switch " mechanism that costs like $400-$500. Have you ever heard of this?  I haven't mentioned bulbs or fuses because I'm going to check them today but a for few days the lights would work only after 30 min. of "warm-up." We are in summer so it's not freezing temps. either. Please help!

Answer
I'm sure that a new switch is what you need.  The headlight switch is concentric to the steering column.  The wheel will have to come off and there are a lot of wires connected to it.  Yes, you have to replace the entire assembly, both the left and right hand stalks.  But, the switch is available from several sources other than the dealer for less than $200.  I'd say that, when you consider that it is 21 years old, you have gotten good use out of the old one.  And you're lucky that they are still available.  When you order the new one make sure to tell them whether or not you have a coupe or sedan (two or four door).
