Question
I have a 2000 323i BMW.How do I replace the front passenger side window regulator.

Answer
Installing a new regulator really isn't a big deal.  You can tell by looking at it what needs to be done.  Getting the inside door panel off, on the other hand, can be a real bear.  I've never taken the door apart on a BMW.  But, I've found that all cars, including Mercedes, use more or less the same technology.  The bottom and sides of the door panel are held to the door by little clips.  They used to use spring clips that were reusable, but by the '80's most manufacturers had switched to using plastic ones that can't be re-used.  Those all need to be carefully pulled out of the metal door.  It's important to be gentle in prying these out so that you don't tear the door panel.  Once the panel's torn, that clip won't work.  You can rig a repair but it will never look the same.  Then the panel probably fits over the door at the top.  It will have to be lifted up to get it off.  Before you do this you will have to find all of the screws that secure the armrest and door latch through the panel to the door itself and remove those.  You will also have to pause and disconnect all of the wires hooked to the speakers, switches, etc., before you pull the door panel out of the way.  On some cars the piece at the bottom that fastens to the window can be disconnected from the regulator.  But, on some it can't, and the glass needs to be parted from it and glued into the new one.  Which is why I got the Mercedes specialist down the street to do the window regulators in my 500SEC.  It just wasn't worth my time when he already knew how.
