Auto Parts: Fog lights, worst case scenario, factory fog

Question
I can not find the light bulb for my 2007 hyunda sante fe, any suggestions, the dealer wants $50.00 just for the bulb and not to install it. thanks

Answer
None of my catalogs list the fog light bulb for the Santa Fe.  This is potentially good news.  It may mean that there is no standard factory fog lamp, and that the lamps on your truck did not come from Hyundai.  If they were made by someone other than Hyundai then they will have one of several commonly available bulbs.  What you need to do is take the bulb out and look at it carefully.  If it has a metal base then it will have a number printed or etched into the base.  The number should start with an "H" and will be either H1, H2, H3, or H7.  These bulbs are available at any auto parts store.  If it has a plastic base, it will have a three-digit number printed on the black plastic base.  There are quite a number of these bulbs available and most of the popular ones can also be had at any good parts store.  There are a few of these that are not widely used and subsequently hard to find.  If you compare your old bulb to the ones hanging up in the parts store you should be able to find one with the same connector and the same distance from the mounting flange to the filament.  It may have a different wattage rating than your old one but will work.  You could probably buy two, so that the left and right will match, and still spend less than half of the $50 that the dealer wanted.  Worst case scenario: Hyundai uses a unique bulb that is available nowhere else and you have to spend the $50.  I really doubt that this is the case.
