Answer Yes, you can install regular shocks on the Pathfinder. I'm sure others have a procedure as well, but I'm quoting from Monroe™, a brand that you can find just about anywhere.
1.) Remove shock actuators.
2.) Unplug control switch located in console.
3.) Remove old shocks and install new ones per instruction sheet supplied with units.
4.) Use the following units: 37100 Front, 37029 Rear.
That sounds pretty straightforward. In Monroe's catalog there is an appendix which describes the procedure for replacing electronic shocks on most cars. It is not possible on all cars, but yours is one, so go to it and stop bobbing up and down every time you hit the brakes.
As an aside, I had a '72 Chevelle wagon that we used as a delivery vehicle for our parts store back in the '80's. The shocks were so bad that I could modulate the brake pedal, while sitting still at a light or in the drive-thru lane, in such a manner that the car would rock back and forth from the front bump stops to the rears. There was enough give in the bushings and so forth that the car would not move forward, even though I had it in drive. I could sit there and rock the car so hard it looked like a low-rider with the shakes. Of course, I didn't do this with the boss riding along.
