Auto Parts: S-10 Transmission interchangeability, hollander interchange, interchange guide

Question
My neighbor has a 2001 S-10 Blazer, 4X4, 4.3 donor vehicle with a good transmission in it. He also has a 2000 S-10 Blazer, 4X4, 4.3 with a bad transmission in it.

My question is will these two transmissions interchange without any headache? I'm helping them out because they don't have money to pay someone to do this for them, but I don't want to spend time on this little project if this isn't going to work.

Hopefully this will swap out fine, but I've worked on enough GM Vehicles to know the difference in one year can mean a whole lot of difference in part capability.

Thanks so much for any help.
Bobby

Answer
Well, they're both, or should be (you can check the trans code on the door sticker), 4L60E 4WD transmissions.  But, my information lists different part numbers for the two years.  It doesn't, however, explain what the difference between the two is.  So I would have to say that you could probably swap them, but you are going to run into something along the way that is different.  It's possible that this difference could be accommodated, but it could prove insurmountable.  It may simply be that GM made some sort of improvements in 2001 that are not, strictly speaking, necessary to the job.  I do not have access to the Hollander interchange guide that most salvage yards have; perhaps you could befriend someone there and they could look and see what difference there is and if it can be accommodated simply.
