Auto Parts: 1996 chevy tahoe, chevy tahoe, independent mechanic

Question
My tahoe has always started anytime I have tried and about a month ago I went to crank it in the am hours and it took like 15 times of turning it over before it would start.now it is getting to be every time I park for over 30 mins or more, its getting harded and harder to start. And I live in NC so pretty good temps here all the time.

Answer
It sounds like you are not getting the right mixture on starting or on hot restart.  These engines use a central fuel injection system that has a habit of leaking.  If it leaks down while cold, then it will take a while to build pressure and start the engine.  If it leaks down while hot, the extra fuel ends up in the manifold, making it too rich to start easily.  Fixing these things is costly, so you should get a pro to look at it first and see what the problem really is.  Make sure you tell him all of the symptoms so that he'll know what to look for.  And don't go to a chain, tire, muffler, or tune-up franchise; ask around and find a good independent mechanic who isn't being paid commission by some uncaring corporation or foreign-born franchisee, and get him to explain everything to you.  They don't live off of the fees from one job, they live off of repeat business, and he'll want to do everything to make you happy, not everything to get into your wallet.
