Auto Parts: Cadillac 1978 Coupe DeVille- Headliner, full size chevy, repair upholstery

Question
I removed the headliner. At the time, i didn't think anything of it and threw away the special headliner board a big no no. Professional Shops use the old board and put on new material.

For some reason I am having trouble finding 77-79 Cadillacs for parts in general. I need the board. I am exhausted looking in salvage yards. Can you help me?

Answer
Cadillac didn't make a lot of these cars, and most of them have long since been run through the shredder.  Nobody really liked the new smaller full-size GM cars, and they are just now getting to be appreciated as cool, albeit big, rods.  Have you considered using the board out of a 2-door Chevy?  I think the cabin of the Caddy might be a little longer, but I'll bet you could make it work.  Any '77 and later rear-wheel drive full-size Chevy should work.  I'll bet you can even find a new one of those.  Might take a little modification, but an extra $50 to the install guy should take care of it.  And don't take it to a trim shop.  Ask around the used car lots until one of them gives you the phone number of the guy who comes around and fixes headliners.  Every town has one of these guys, they and others like them (dent repair, upholstery repair, paint touch-up, bumper chromers, etc.) are essential to the used car business, i.e. making old cars look like they're worth more than they are.
