Auto Parts: Auto Transmission cost & repair, transmission shop, strange noise

I have a 2006 Chrysler Van with a 3.8 motor. The transmission is making a strange noise and I would like to know what the total cost might be to replace transmission and cost of labor might be.

    How could a three-year-old car need a new transmission?  I sincerely doubt that it does, but you'd be looking at around $2500 to replace it with a rebuilt one.  You need to find a mechanic who works on transmissions, NOT a transmission shop like AAMCO, or any other chain.  Ask the guys at your local auto parts store, they'll know somebody.  Let him look at it and find out what the noise really is.  He can probably just fix that and you'll be good to go.
