Auto Parts: 87 toyota celica gt wheel cylinder help, toyota celica gt, wheel cylinders

Question
I noticed some excessive noise coming from the rear passenger drum brakes and this is after I changed all components of drum brakes except wheel cylinders. I bought replacement wheel cylinders since the noise has to caused by the wheel cylinders (I checked all other parts and all are installed properly). My question is when I went to replace the wheel cylinders I noticed I could not get a socket or wrench on the 2 bolts holding cylinders in place. How can I remove these if I cannot get a wrench or socket on the bolt head? If I must brake the bolts, what size bolts do I need to replace them? Any ideas and help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Jason,

I don't recall ever having that issue. They were installed therefore they can be removed. Simple as that, you just need to find the proper tool. If access is your problem, then maybe on your vehicle you need to loosen the backing plate to make room to fit a socket or wrench. I've also never heard a wheel cylinder, bad or good, make a noise.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
