Auto Parts: 2004 Camry SE, pep boys, repair vehicles

Question
QUESTION: Hi again---One more question--Someone told my wife that she shouldn't have
her transmission oil changed on her 96 Camry for whatever reason. Something
about being an older car, it could do more harm than good. Before I ask them
what they were smoking when they said this, I wanted to get your expert opinion
here. Thanks again!!!!!

ANSWER: Hi Ed,

I'd be asking what they're smoking too. I've never heard of an auto transmission that does NOT need to be maintenanced. The only harm NOT changing the fluid/filter will cause is harm to your mechanics wallet. Find a new mechanic before this one tries to rip you off again.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.

QUESTION: Thanks so much. Also, I sent you another question regarding my 2004
Toyota SE dashboard and if it was possible to change the amber lights to a
white or light blue and you didn't reply yet. I sent that question first that's
why I'm bringing it up. Sorry, just want to make sure you got it...

THanks!

ANSWER: Hi Ed,

I think I did field that question, if you still have not received the reply, send a follow-up or another question and I'll take care of it.

My scheduling for answering questions is limited to once every few days so if you don't see an answer within a day or two, please be patient. Thanks.

QUESTION: OK---here it is again...I was wondering on my 2004 Camry SE if it's possible
(and if so, what's involved) in changing the dashboard lights from that amber
orange color to a white or light blue like the Honda has.
THanks!

Answer
Hi Ed,

You'd need to remove the cluster and determine what type of bulbs it has or if the bulbs are white, the color of the gels and replace those. First step is to remove the unit from the vehicle and check the bulb style.
