Auto Parts: Misfire issues for a 2004 Dodge 1500, dodge 1500 ram, pep boys

Question
My husband is currently working on a friend of his 2004 Dodge 1500 Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7 Liter. And it's been misfiring on number 6. He replaced the ignition coil pack. Ran diagnostics on it again and said number 6 and 8 are misfiring. So he replaced the coil pack on number 8 too (which fixed number 8). We also replaced the spark plugs for #6 and #8. He is stumped as to why number 6 is still throwing the misfire code. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Sara,

There are other parts to the secondary ignition system like the module, plugs and wires. If the plug is dead, it will cause a misfire code and as well, if the wire is bad/grounded, it will cause a misfire code too. The module is the only piece that would need to be tested with a scanner to insure it is good. If it has a fault, it will alert the PCM to illuminate the SES light with the misfire code but will not specifically address the cause of the issue.

Don't forget to clear the store codes after any diagnosis or repair/replacement so the PCM can compensate and re-learn the preset program.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
