Nissan Repair: 88 ZX wont start, air inlet hose, fuel pump relay

Question
Hi,  My 88 ZX (non turbo) won't start.  Battery wouldn't hold charge so installed new battery now car turns over but won't start.  Putting fuel in intake makes it run but only until fuel is gone.  Car has been sitting for several months but started okay before.  Fuel pump? Fuel filter?
If it is a fuel filter, where is it located?

Answer
Linda,

I bet hte fuel pump or fuel pump relay is out.  Just replace the fuel pump relay first as it is under $20 bucks and if that does not do the trick I would check for fuel pressure I bet there will be none from what you describe.  Now, when you run fuel or carb cleaner in the intake you are putting on the intake hose from the air meter to the intake before attempting to start.  Never attempt to start the car without the air inlet hose connected as the air meter will not allow the car to run disconnected.  Unmetered air is a bad thing...
