Auto Parts: 72 nova, 70 camaro, 69 camaro

Question
i want to put a tilt column in my 72 nova. i found one on e bay out of a 70 camaro. will it fit without any alterations? thanx jeff

Answer
Hi Jeff,

GM never fitted a tilt column into the 72 Nova's so you are completely on your own there.

I can tell you the Camaro column, whether tilt or not, fits Camaro's or Firebird's, '70 thru '75 only and your '72 Nova column, depending on the options, like torque drive and MT or AT, fits Nova's only with the exception being the floor-shift edition column which was used in the Nova's, Omega's an Ventura-II's '72 thru '74. Also, If your Nova has a column shift and MT, the column will also fit into the '73 and '74 Apollo's, the '69 Camaro and Nova's from '69 thru '74.

Very confusing interchange. If you tell me the options on the columns you are trying to exchange, I think I can be a little more definitive.

Questions are for the '72 Nova: Column or Floor shift, if column shift also need to know MT or AT. If an AT also need to know if the vehicle was equipped with torque drive or not. No further info is needed on the floor shift edition columns.

Questions on the '70 Camaro column: Column or Floor shift, also need to know tilt or no-tilt for either style.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
