Auto Parts: EGR Valve, plymouth voyager, pep boys

Question
Hi,
I have an '87 Plymouth Voyager with a Mitsubishi 2.6L 4 cyl. engine.  The EGR valve needs to be replace but have been discontinued.  The mechanic says there were 3 types of egr valves used with this engine and believes mine is the high-altitude one.  Is there a way I can find a list of other vehicles/years that this motor was used in so that our junk yard searches are not as limited or is there a web site that you know of that deals in used parts?
Thanks, Debbie

Answer
Hi Debbie,

Unfortunately auto manufacturers never release notes dealing with emissions parts. It would be illegal. The emissions sticker under the hood of your vehicle should say if it is standard emissions, California/Canada (low) emissions or High Altitude emissions and so will any prospective donor vehicle in an auto recycling facility near you.

I would just plug the EGR and not worry about it. Your vehicle is almost 23 years old, chances are the rest of the emissions system is defunct so I'd think replacing the valve would be a waste of your time and money.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
