Auto Parts: 1997 Chevy S10 2.2L - Throttle Cable, chevy s10, throttle cables

Question
Hey there, I have a 1997 Chevy S10 2.2L 4 Cylinder.  My throttle cable is frayed and sticks with the htrottle itself wide open.  This made for some very exciting driving last Friday.

My question is what parts do I need to change this out and what is the difficulty in doing such a job???

I haven't been able to find any parts online and will probably need to do a special order for the part.

Thanks so much for your time.

Answer
Hi Jeff,

I'm sure it did make for some interesting travel.

Your best bet is to go to a local salvage yard and pull a good one out of another vehicle. GM states that item is no longer available new and there aren't many aftermarket companies competing to make throttle cables. They are pretty easy to replace, just a few clips. Pay attention when removing the one from the donor vehicle so if you do need to break something, you'll be able to figure out how NOT to break the same item on YOUR car.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
