Auto Parts: 2003 Dodge Stratus Transmission, dodge stratus, torque converter

Question
I HAVE A DODGE STRATUS AND WITH NO WARNING IT LOST EVERY GEAR IN IT GOING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE IT AT HOME NOW AND SOMETIMES IT MAKES A WHINING NOISE AND ONLY THEN WILL IT SHIFT INTO REVERSE FOR A SPLIT SECOND. I TRIED TO TURN THE KEY OFF-ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON AND IT DISPLAYED DONE ON THE ODOMETER BUT THEN ONLY POPPED UP THE MILEAGE. I AM WONDERING DOES THIS SOUND LIKE THE TORQUE CONVERTER, TRANSMISSION PUMP OR MORE LIKE THE TRANSMISSION AND HOW MUCH SHOULD EACH THING COST TO BE FIXED? I DON'T WANT TO GET RIPPED OFF!!!

Answer
I would love to be able to help and pinpoint the problem for you, but it just doesn't work that way unfortunately for transmissions.  With something like the problem you have, NO good mechanic will give you a solid price without tearing apart the trans to get an accurate assessment of what needs to be either repaired or replaced.
