Auto Parts: 96 Jeep not getting fire, crankshaft sensor, crank sensor

Question
My jeep is not getting fire. He is what happened, I was on vacation and I went to start my jeep and get gas to start a new work week. I found out that some one stole some gas and the gas gage will not register any gas. We call someone over they said we would have to drop the tank and replace the pump, we did that. But the jeep will still not start. It will start to start but it will not turn over. One person said it was the crankshaft sensor and someone else says the oxygen sensor. We tried to manually code test I get code 51 but I'm not sure what that is?
Please help.

Answer
Hi Rebekah,

I would assume a code 51 would be present on an engine with no-start because it is a lean O2 sensor code. If your engine is turning over, getting fuel but no spark, you should test the ignition controller and the crank sensor. Why it would have gone out at that time may just be a coincidence.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
