Auto Parts: 2000 Nissan Xterra, nissan xterra, pep boys

Question
QUESTION: I'm trying to replace the passenger side headlight bulb but cannot remove the bulb from the wire housing.  The Nissan manual shows it as a 3 step process.  The 1st to push down on the back of the plastic part of the bulb to disconnect the wire housing.  I push but no luck.  Don't want to break the part.  Also it is so near to the battery that there is not much room to remove the bulb.  Thanks.

ANSWER: Hi Bob,

The book is right. It may be a tight spot, but the procedure for removal is still valid. You need to remove the wire harness (plastic clip on top), the bulb retainer (should be just a half-twist) and then slide the bulb out of it's housing for replacement.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.

QUESTION: Fred, Thanks for the response and you were saying, "It may be a tight spot, but the procedure for removal is still valid. You need to remove the wire harness (plastic clip on top), the bulb retainer (should be just a half-twist) and then slide the bulb out of it's housing for replacement."  - The plastic clip on top is very hard to remove.  Do I push down on the clip or just twist to pull the bulb out.  I am having a problem with the bulbs plastic clip, that is what I do not want to break...

Answer
Hi Bob,

Sorry for the delayed responce, computer crash.

the clip holding the bulb is a split-clip and designed to be just pulled on and off with a little force. You could lift up slightly on each side of the split clip to make removal easier, but it is usually immpossible to get a screw driver or anything in that tight of a spot while your hands are in there too.

Good luck,

Fred
