Auto Parts: Replace the fuel door hinge on 2001 Volvo, Volvo, fuel door

Question
Hello,
The fuel door hinge broke on my 2001 Volvo V70 T-5 wagon.  I drilled out the pegs that held the old one into the body, and attempted to put the new one one with no luck.  There are 4 plastic pegs that appear to need to be driven into the spreading plastic bulbs on the back of the piece.  It looks like you hit them with a hammer to drive them into the bulbs on the back, however, I tried and broke off one of the pegs.  I'm wondering if there is a special tool used to drive these pegs into the hinge unit to cause the bulbs on the back to spread and hold the hinge to the sheet metal.

Many thanks if you can help me!

Answer
Tom,

As easy as this job sounds, I'm confident I'd be able to help you if I saw what exactly you're dealing with first-hand, but I'm having trouble drawing the picture in my head, and I don't have much experience with Volvo's.  :(

Maybe a trip to your local dealer would help?  Go to the parts desk and see if one of those guys can help you out, that's worked for me before - and no extra money out of my pocket.  :)

I did try to look up some information, and another expert on here apparently specializes in Volvo's.  Someone asked the same question about their Volvo, and even he said it's difficult to explain over an email without showing you first-hand how to do it.  He also recommended going to a dealer for help with it.

Otherwise, I did find on a Volvo discussion forum how to do this job.  This is apparently a common problem with Volvo's, as there are many posts on this subject.

And here's a good link out of that thread on how to do the job.  Click on the link, then click on "Gas Cap Door & Hinge Repair":
