Auto Parts: low beam headlight, explorer eddie bauer, drl module

Question
I have a 1997 Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition, the headlight on passenger side will not work on low beam, I had not had this vehicle long when the same problem happened on the left side low beam. Bulb replaced, did not help, finally he figured out it was a module in the message center, he by-passed it and it has worked fine. He has done the same with this but it still won't work on low beam, high beam is fine. Could this be the DRL and what does he need to do?

Thanks!!!
Gail

Answer
Hi Gail,

I'd guess that maybe the dimmer switch is bad. The DRL module shuts down as soon as the headlights are used and they'd have nothing to do with a set of beams not working.

Adding a band-aid to an already screwed-up situation I don't think will help you. You can try replacing the DRL module, but I think you'll be wasting your time and money. Money better spent finding someone who can fix the REAL problem and not just hold your ride together with duct-tape and bubble gum.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
