Question
i have a 1998 olds intrigue I changed the bettery turned it over it worked fine but let it sit 1 day and went to start and nothing not even a crank so had starter and alternator checked..both work fine . I do hear a faint turn signal sound while the key is out but car wont start.

Answer
Hi Ed,

Sounds like you have a dead-short. Something is either being left ON or a component has acquired a short-to-ground and is killing the battery. Start by charging the battery and connect it to the car. Listen for the sound you are hearing and as you are, pull fuses one-at-a-time until the noise stops. Keep the fuse out and try to start the vehicle the next day. If it starts, your short is on that circuit and if it still doesn't start, you may want to take it to a local, reputable service technician and have the electrical system diagnosed.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
