QuestionThe battery does not charge. It would seem to be the alternator but are there any other reasons such as fuses etc that would cause the battery not to charge??

Not unless the battery has a dead cell or two, but even then it would house enough energy to at least try and turn the engine over. The alternator is in complete control of charging the battery and running any accessories as well as the engine management when the motor is running. If your battery isn't charging, the alternator is probably the culprit.
