Auto Parts: Advice needed, ford explorer sport trac, ford explorer sport

Question
I live in colorado and I do a lot outdoor activities. Lately I've been needing a better vehicle for getting places. I'm looking at getting either a 2004 Jeep wrangler with a lift kit already installed at $16,000, or a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac at $12,000. Both vehicles are around 70,000 miles. The sport trac would be the vehicle of choice but I will need to get a lift kit installed. I don't have much experience with this and I will have to get it professionally done, do you have any advice?

Thank you

Answer
Hi Devin,

I'm not keen on either choice, but if you want my advice on the two of them, I'd pick the Jeep. Not only has it been designed by the manufacturer to live in the outdoors, but it has been modified already pretty much just the way you want it. The Exploder, er, Explorer is already a roll-over hazard long before you lift the center of gravity further from the road.

If you're looking for a grocery-hauler that will see 'some' off-roading, then the Ford may be the way you want to go, but if you're looking for something that will take you places other vehicles can't go, Jeep has been doing that for almost 100 years. You'll probably suffer on the fuel-mileage front with the Jeep, but the difference is negligible and the pros FAR outweigh the cons on other aspects.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
