Auto Parts: better intake, cold air intake, ram design

Question
im looking at putting a performance intake system in my eclipse but ive been told multiple things about witch will give me more performance, so should i put a cold air intake or a short ram intake?

Answer
Hi David,

Both designs have their benefits as well as their draw-backs.

The cold-air design produces more torque whereas the Ram style will produce more horsepower.

Torque is felt pulling out and horsepower is felt when you accelerate at 70mph. The Ram design ONLY operates when the vehicle is moving at 50mph or faster. Up to that point, there is not enough pressure to add any significant boost to the engine whereas cold-air is always welcomed by the engine and will consistently make good torque at a wide range of vehicle speeds.

If it were mine, I like the 'feel' of power, but could care less to have to be doing 85 to feel it, so I'd be opting for the cold-air intake but in addition, I would also pick-up an auxiliary transmission cooler and run my fuel-feed lines through it. Cold fuel burns hotter and faster and has a lower flash-point allowing it to increase the horsepower without too many modifications.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
