Auto Parts: Replacing a wheel barren on a 2001 Hyundai Elantra, hyundai elantra, fuel savings

Question
Hello.  I live in Chicago, IL and want to know what's reasonable for replacing a wheel barren (spelling?). I was quoted almost $300 for the part and labor, plus told that the barren was completely shot. I want to get other estimates. Is replacing a barren serious enough to drop $300 at once?

Answer
Hi Brandy,

Unless you have the skills to replace it yourself, I'd say you've gotten a pretty good estimate there. Lower than one you would have received here in Pa.

Is a wheel bearing serious enough to drop $300.00? Without a doubt. The fuel savings alone will pay for the repair. The excessive drag that bad bearing is causing is hurting other, more expensive parts on your car so you are well advised to have it replaced as soon as possible before you end up replacing related parts too.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
