Auto Parts: civic intake, horsepower increase, pilot performance

hi, i've got a "performance mod chip", or whatever you want to call it, for my 1994 honda civic EX and i was just curious about it.. i haven't installed it yet because i was skeptical after buying it. would this cause engine damage in any way? ..the chip or mod is called proboost platinum.. heres a link to show you exactly what i have..  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-Civic-Accord-CRX-Prelude-Pilot-Performance-...  i'd really like to know if this would be safe to install. thanks!

Hi Blake,

That ad seemed very vague to me. I don't know what that chip is supposed to do so I don't know if it would harm any of the OEM systems on your car. Most of those upgrade chips are harmless and the increase of horsepower you get with them is at the cost of more fuel.

There is only three ways to increase horsepower, increase compression, vary the ignition timing and add more fuel. Increasing compression, I don't think that can be accomplished with a 'chip' upgrade. Varying the ignition timing and adding more fuel are the ways that 'chips' increase horsepower. Obviously more fuel means more fire. The chip you are getting will either increase one or both of these settings from factory to whatever it is pre-programmed to do.

Will this chip work for you? I have no clue. The ad fails to give a good description of the product.
