Auto Parts: Ford Ranger Gauges, electrical option, wrecked truck

Question
I have a 1999 Ford Ranger.  My truck does not have a tachometer but I know that a tachometer was an option for this year.  My question is: If I went to the junkyard and got an instrument cluster from a wrecked truck would it work in my truck without modification and if so would any other year work?

Hi Gary,

Unfortunately, a tach was an electrical option and short of replacing the engine harness, the under-dash harness, the ECM, the cluster itself and the ignition module, adding a tach to your dash isn't an option.
