Auto Parts: engine size, bigblock, turbo 2

i have a 97 eclipse with a 2.0 engine. my question is if i want to do an engine swap what is the biggest engine that will  fit in my engine compartment

Hi David,

That sounds like a loaded question. I bet I could shoe-horn a 7.4L Chevy BigBlock in there if I had to but I'm sure that's not what you're asking.

Unfortunately, the biggest engine Mitsubishi made for that body style is a 2.4L however, the bell of the transmission will accept a direct upgrade from the 2.0 to the 2.4. You won't see an increase in horsepower by doing that though.

That vehicle was also produced with a TURBO 2.0. You would have to do quite a bit of electrical modifications to get the turbo assembly to work in your vehicle as well as switching out the transmissions, but it is almost 100 horsepower stronger than either the 2.0L or the 2.4L counterparts.
