Auto Parts: 1992 firebird wiper switch, clockspring, column switch

Question
How difficult is it to replace this wiper switch. I know to diconnect the battery before removing air bag and then pull the steering wheel. (I have replaced the steering wheel and air bag on this vehicle before). Is it just the matter of removing the shroud on the steering column or what. I appreciate any help given. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Don,

That's pretty much it. I'm not certain about the one you are working with, but GM used two types of column switches. One had a wire harness and one did not. The one w/o the harness is a twenty-minute job whereas the one with the harness can take an hour or more depending on how nimble you are fishing the harness through the column.

Definitely disconnect the battery and try to refrain from turning the steering shaft more than 15 degrees in either direction so you don't get an SRS fault. I think you may also have to remove the clockspring to gain access to the column switch. Use caution here so you DO NOT disturb the internal position of the clockspring or unplug it to avoid bag deployment or a fault.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
