Auto Parts: lower control arm, olds achieva, control arm

Question
"97 Olds' Achieva 2.4L, 100,000 mi., when doing struts mechanic said found
that alignment way off, corrected pretty close, but said lower control arm
driver's side has a very worn bushing and that should be replaced.  Didn't
check yet but said thinks can't replace just bushing, that comes as part of
the arm.  Also said that was the cause of a thump like noise heard on some
bumps.  Put off for now, but wondering if all makes sense.
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Lou,

Your lower control arm certainly contains replaceable, serviceable bushings. That car is over 10 years old, if that mechanic doesn't have a knowledge-base that goes back AT LEAST ten years, I'd be in the market finding a NEW mechanic. Look around for a reputable ASE Certified technician, then you won't have to worry about searching for information for your mechanic because ASE certified techs would know that answer without a pause.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
